A few weeks ago I did a segment on my hometown news-- WOWK 13 News. I talked about New Year's Resolutions and how I hope to use my knowledge and voice to change the outlook on them this year. Even if it's just one person that I help.
"It is never too early or too late to work on being the healthiest you."

How many of you have made goals in the past that result in failure and guilt, instead of change and a sense of a sense of accomplishment?
I too used to make unrealistic goals, and all it does is enter you into a revolving diet trap. Knowledge is power. So, this year I challenge you to step forward into focusing on health from the inside, out. Focus on preventing lifestyle related disease such as type II diabetes or obesity, becoming healthier to help the health of your future children, or becoming healthier so you can be more active with your loved ones— Whatever it is that motivates you! You can start focusing on what you can ADD to your every day life, not depleting yourself of, to make you a healthier individual. That is a lifestyle change to last a lifetime!
For me, one thing I try to stay mindful of is eating enough fruits and vegetables. A simple way to get a good base of the fruits and vegetables you need in a day is with a smoothie—The smoothies I make have a variety of vitamins and minerals and include every one of the five food groups… All of which are important to help prevent disease, to assist your organs in cleansing your body of toxins, to give you energy to think and move, and to keep you full of the good stuff so you can listen to your body's natural hunger cues better.
Look at this beautiful rainbow of goodness in my blender? You can top with cereal, granola, unsweetened coconut flakes, dark chocolate chips-- Get creative, it's hard to mess up!
Make health fun, make it positive. I eat fruits and vegetables, but I also eat butter, cookies, red meat, and drink wine. It's all about finding balance and what works for you, your body, and your life. Everyone is different, which is why a dietitian is of great assistance to finding success in long-term health goals. True health goals should never be the brick wall that stops you from enjoying life, they should be the backbone that allow you to enjoy life to the fullest!
Please note, my recommendations are generalized and not specified to each individual's unique health needs. Individuals with specific health conditions (kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and more) should speak to a registered dietitian for a client-centered approach for dietary needs.
If you are interested in speaking to a dietitian for guidance and help, I am available through email, skype/Facetime, or phone call to any region. I am available in person only in Columbus, OH area. -- Reach out for a free initial consultation today.
